Whats better than playing your favorite song on Rock Band? Having other people playing YOUR songs on Rock Band!
Asenath Rockband Authoring was formed to do just that. Starting as a means to get our own songs from our bands into the game, we then thought, there are so many really great bands out there that we would all love to play. We are now focusing on creating tracks for genres that we know and love, unlike other places that may not know the slightest thing about your songs and vision. We have been moved by the music we wish to track and post, so much ,that we prefer to cater to the genres that we listen to on a daily basis.
We have a vast array of experiences ranging from a variety of different musicians, audio techs, programers, animators, designers and people who are just really really good at the game. But we all share a common interest in darker and louder music. From Metal, and many of its sub genres... Goth Metal, Death Metal, Thrash, Symphonic to Punk, Post - Punk, Goth and Industrial. Music that has been a part of our daily lives. We feel that this genre of music has been put to the way side by the game , that when this opens up , we will jump at the chance to help get the music we love out there.
After a couple years of silence from Perdition, they have just announced they are returning. But don't expect them to be playing in any large venues anytime soon... but maybe in your living room.
Perdition was a Toronto band that formed in 1997 and played live until 2007. They released seven CDs, appeared on two compilation discs, produced one box set (containing a DVD) and made a couple videos. They played far too many live shows to list here. Perdition started off as a three piece Doom band and evolved into a larger faster paced, though still dark, goth / metal band with some electronic elements.
Up to this point, the weekly Rock Band DLC releases have been a product of Harmonix working with music labels and doing the legwork to inject the necessary gameplay into the songs. With Rock Band Network, Harmonix is handing its tools over to the masses, allowing just about anyone to get their music into the game and turn a profit on it. It's a potentially exciting development for Harmonix, musicians, and players alike, and one that, since it was first revealed last month, has raised a number of questions about the whole process. I recently had a chance to speak with Harmonix's Greg LoPiccolo about some of the nuts and bolts of how Rock Band Network will work.
When Rock Band debuted in 2007, developer Harmonix stressed that the series would be a unique platform for expression. While the upcoming The Beatles: Rock Band is an example of one direction the franchise can take, the Rock Band Network is another intriguing option. The recently announced network promises to give just about anyone the chance to get their music into Rock Band. We got a chance to get a run through what it's going to take for you to go from air-guitaring along to other people's music to getting some of your own tunes in Rock Band 2.
Within seconds, it's clear that Rock Band Network isn't for amateurs. The tools being offered by Harmonix are fully-featured, professional programs that are meant for artists serious about getting their content into Rock Band and, yes, making money. With Harmonix admitting that first-time users will take 20-40 hours to finish a single song "all the way," it's clear that this isn't meant for the average gamers that have a bit of spare time on their hands.
